Robin is approached by Edie Ledwell, the co-creator of cult TV cartoon The Ink Black Heart, to uncover the identity of her online harasser "Anomie." But with business solidly booked, Robin initially turns Edie down – until a devastating incident pulls her and Strike into the case.

After Robin goes undercover to tour the cemetery where the murder occurred, she and Strike visit Josh in the hospital to learn more about the show’s pending film deal. Meanwhile, Barclay finds himself at risk while tailing a suspect, and Charlotte entangles Strike – and the future of his business – in her messy divorce.

Strike and Robin eliminate several suspects after making a major breakthrough. Meanwhile, Robin celebrates the high of moving into her new flat – and the low of her cover being blown. Later, Anomie strikes again.

As Strike and Robin inch closer to uncovering Anomie’s identity, the agency is targeted in a devastating attack. Then, Robin puts herself at risk to prevent Anomie from claiming more lives.
