After a stunning relegation, Sassuolo will usher in their new cycle with coach Fabio Grosso at the helm against a perennial playoff contender in Serie B.

The new-look Udinese will get things started versus Avellino, who beat their regional rivals, Serie B newcomers Juve Stabia, in the preliminary round.

Genoa have had a lot of continuity this summer, and after finishing 11th, they’ll look to get past a pesky side that lost their coach to Monza.

Monza had a quiet summer but two big changes, on the bench and up front, as they sold their star Colpani. Sudtirol easily avoided relegation last season.

Cremonese saw their promotion bid end in the bitterest way possible, losing in the playoff final to Venezia. Bari won the playout to stay in Serie B.

Coach Zanetti will debut on the Hellas Verona bench against the ambitious Cesena, who have been busy on the market and defeated Padova 3-1 to advance.

Empoli are still a big work in progress after the departure of coach Davide Nicola and several players. Catanzaro are also starting anew with a new boss.

Napoli will begin the season early as they stunningly finished 10th and hired Antonio Conte to right the ship. Modena were solid in their Serie B return.

Brescia are going big-game hunting in the transfer market to make it back to Serie A. Venezia aim to defend that but are largely incomplete at this stage.

Parma have been surgical so far, as they already had a top division-worthy squad. They’ll face the ambitious Palermo, which are part of the City Group.

Torino have decided to try something different, going from a very defensive-minded coach to a more proactive one. Cosenza are famously hard to defeat.

Frosinone are still regrouping after going down due to a late goal in the final round. Pisa concluded a rollercoaster of a campaign in 13th position.

Lecce will look to begin the season well against Mantova, who dominated their group to earn the promotion to Serie B and got past Torres last week.

Salernitana are in confusing times after the relegation amid sale rumors. Spezia aren’t in much better shape after avoiding the same faith only late.

After a dramatic bid to avoid relegation, Cagliari and new boss Davide Nicola will face Carrarese, who won the Serie C playoffs and just topped Catania.

Genoa won their first cup game but are dealing with some tricky transfer market situations. Inter will try to start the path to a potential repeat well.

AC Milan looked good in the friendlies and will be tested immediately. Torino are usually pugnacious, which should still be the case despite a new coach.

Both teams faced Serie B sides in Coppa Italia: Empoli did quick work of Catanzaro, while Monza needed the penalty kick shootout to get past SudTirol.

It was a summer of change for both teams, which have new bosses. Bologna lost two aces, Zirkzee and Calafiori, while Udinese reunited with Alexis Sanchez.

Hellas Verona didn’t fare well in coach Zanetti’s first official game, as they were beaten by Cesena. Napoli didn’t do much better versus Modena, though.

Cagliari breezed past Carrarese in the first cup game with Nicola in their dugout. Roma spent big on the transfer market and eye immediate dividends.

Lazio overhauled their squad, parting ways with Immobile and Alberto and going with a new gaffer. Venezia did the same but are still largely incomplete.

Juventus didn’t perform well in the pre-season, and their XI is still missing a few pieces. Como successfully went big-name hunting after the promotion.

Udinese didn’t fare too convincingly against Bologna but still salvaged a draw. Lazio easily came back after conceding early and breezed past Venezia.
