Gary is having a hard time juggling both pregnancies, as Yvonne is feeling romantic even though he's not, and his situation with Phoebe is the exact opposite. Ron suggests a new money-making scheme: buying watches in the past and selling them in the present.

Gary plans an extended stay in wartime London while Yvonne is away on a business trip. However, he also needs to watch their godson, Arthur. When Arthur disappears and turns up in 1942, Gary has a hard time explaining things to Phoebe.

With Yvonne in Korea, Gary is about to spend a week in the country with Phoebe, but then his father shows up on his doorstep, wanting to visit with his son.

Phoebe’s husband is killed in action in Egypt, freeing up her and Gary to wed. As Phoebe plans the memorial service, she debates waiting to remarry for propriety’s sake or seizing happiness while she can. Meanwhile, Ron needs Gary’s help when he gets arrested.

When Phoebe takes Gary to Liverpool to meet her grandmother, the trio end up having an awkward conversation about sex. Gary also takes the opportunity to meet Albert, Ron’s supposedly heroic grandfather.

Gary faces vastly different baby problems in the past and present. Ron decides to see a sex therapist, while Reg attempts to help an ex-girlfriend deal with domestic violence.

When Yvonne quits her job to devote herself to marketing alternative therapies, Gary finds it much harder to slip away to the past, where he’s supposed to be helping Phoebe plan their wedding.

Gary’s stag night takes a wild turn when his drunken boasting lands him in a bombing run over 1942 Germany, which might cause him to miss his wedding the next morning.

It’s the day of the wedding, but Gary oversleeps and shows up late to the church. Will Phoebe ever forgive him? And has Gary finally run out of excuses with Yvonne?

Gary is short on wartime cash and unable to provide the baby things he has promised to Phoebe. The only way he can get money is to set up a date between Ron and Yvonne’s friend Kate. But when Ron lets slip Gary’s secret, it may doom his double life.

Yvonne thinks she has a way to make the Sparrow family fortune, but Gary is distracted by his desire to be with Phoebe, who is nearing her due date. Gary doesn’t pay attention to the full implications of Yvonne's investment plans, and disastrous news may await him in the present.
