Thomas shares a story about Grandpuff Duke, who warns young engines about showing off. Duke is left behind when the mine closes because he's too old. He's found years later and reunites with friends.

Duke is the hero of all the engines. Whether he's the bulldog standing firm and saving Falcon from the edge of a mountainside or always pulling his train even when he feels ill. This Grandpuff shows that he is a Really Useful Engine, even when he's playing a joke on Stuart.

Rude trucks bump Sir Handel off the rails, and Skarloey comes to the rescue. Skarloey proves he can still get the job done. Sir Handel's bad attitude causes trouble on the rails.

In his haste not to be late, Peter Sam leaves a passenger behind. Peter Sam is tricked into doing Sir Handel's work, but when the angry trucks think Peter Sam is Sir Handel, there's trouble for all!

Skarloey returns from being mended. He sees how helpful Rusty has been on the line. He learns that Duncan's bouncy and rude attitude has him rock n' rolling on the rails and in need of rescuing.

Peter Sam is disappointed after his funnel is broken off by an icicle and replaced by a dull drainpipe. Sir Handel and George the steamroller squabble over who is faster and cause confusion and delay.

Skarloey enjoys being polished, making Duncan jealous. Skarloey's coach derails and Duncan helps, but his rudeness angers passengers. Skarloey teaches Duncan the value of passengers through a story.

In need of help, Rusty rescues Stepney to work the Bluebell line. Percy tells Thomas about another engine with a famous branch line. Thomas is jealous of Stepney until he gets to know him.

The Diesel insults the engines, saying they are outdated, but a curious mishap allows the engines to prove him wrong. Cricket players pursue Stepney after a ball accidentally lands in one of his cars.

The circus comes to town! | It is a proud day for all the engines on Sir Topham Hatt's Railway as the Queen is coming to visit.

The engines are excited to go on a trip to the big city to visit a girl who has written Sir Topham Hatt a letter. Daisy claims she's not afraid of animals, but then she meets Champion the bull.

Oliver gets teased by the cars. Toad's plan helps Oliver handle S.C. Ruffey and the mean cars. Duck helps Henry with a heavy load, but when Henry's tail lamp falls off, Duck ends up covered in fish.

Toby is disappointed when he learns he won't be an attraction at the seaside parade. Bulstrode, the disagreeable barge, ends up in a terrible situation after an accident. Percy helps the postman.
