While Henry makes Jane his third wife, a revolt against the brutal crackdown on Catholicism brews in the north of England

The rebellion in the north, now named the Pilgrimage of Grace, grows stronger. While Henry sends Brandon to quell the rebels, Cromwell worries about how the uprising will affect his position.

Henry promises to pardon the rebels in exchange for an end to the revolt. But when a further uprising occurs, he decides to quash any dissent and mercilessly punish those involved.

The brutal suppression of the rebellion continues. Brandon is haunted by the violence that's inflicted on the rebels. Meanwhile, Henry prepares for the birth of his and Jane's child.

A grief-stricken Henry locks himself away in his chambers following Jane's death. In his absence, enemies of the crown seize the opportunity to attack members of the royal court.

Cromwell tries to keep the Reformation on track by finding Henry a Protestant wife. And the planned execution of Cardinal Pole's family threatens to plunge England into a war with France and Spain.

A treaty between King Francis I and Emperor Charles V spawns worries about an invasion of England. Henry's arranged marriage to Anne of Cleves threatens to come undone when he finally meets his bride.

As Henry grows increasingly disillusioned with Anne and seeks to dissolve their new marriage, Brandon and Edward Seymour conspire to bring about Cromwell's downfall
