The Rebel

At 70, Henry Palmer feels fit as a fiddle, despite the worries of those around him. When his attempt to catch a robber who stole from his favorite charity shop is bungled by an inept policeman, Henry is the one who ends up arrested, inspiring him to go on a rebellious rampage.

Donations seem to be down at Margaret’s charity shop, and Henry’s best friend, old hippie Charles, has gone missing. As Henry looks for Charles, Margaret tries to persuade Henry that it’s finally time to scatter his wife’s ashes.

While minding Margaret’s charity shop, Henry inadvertently sells an old urine bottle that has sentimental value for Margaret-and might also be an early work by modern artist Marcel Duchamp. He vows to retrieve the bottle but meets with resistance from the new owner.

Henry wants to help out his daughter, Cath, who is having trouble paying her rent, but he finds no luck at the bank or the leasing agent’s. Facing the prospect of selling his beloved scooter and downsizing into a retirement home, Henry is determined not to go quietly.

Cath's new lodger, Amaya, offers to drive the group to a friend’s funeral, but Henry insists on taking his scooter. As Cath worries over her father’s safety, Henry has an accident on the road that could prevent him from making it to the funeral at all.

A drunken night out featuring a dodgy kebab and a dip in the sea leads Charles and Henry to the hospital. While Charles enjoys the attention, Henry tries to escape. When Cath arrives to help keep Henry in his bed, he’s put in even greater danger.

When Charles’s ex-wife is arrested in a drugs raid, Henry and Charles cook up a plan to help her. However, the ever-vindictive PC Burns is determined to catch them, so when the scheme starts to unravel, it’s up to Margaret, Cath, and Amaya to save the day.

Charles needs to loosen up, so Henry takes him out on the prowl. Charles meets an old flame, but Henry fails to get lucky. Problems arise the next day when Charles catches Henry leaving Margaret’s flat, and Cath’s house party goes disastrously wrong.

Henry is devastated when the urn containing his late wife’s ashes is stolen, but Cath is determined to get it back. Meanwhile, Charles contemplates moving to Scotland, which prompts Margaret to properly examine her feelings.
