Before Allende, before Fidel, there was Cheddi. Cheddi Jagan was the first Marxist leader democratically elected in the Western Hemisphere in 1953. Born in rural Guyana, educated at Howard and Northwestern Universities in the United States where he would meet his wife; Janet. Returning to Guyana they would dedicate their lives to the upliftment of the Guyanese people.
