During the Iraq War, a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work. Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Director. The film also won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing as well as a best Actor nomination for Jeremy Renner.
