June 1930. Following the stock market crash in the fall of 1929, the Desrochers family took refuge in Les Salines. Among the Belziles, life is much happier. Élise and Wilbrod experienced more prosperous years than ever thanks to the agricultural products of their farm. The couple is even thinking of going to Italy for their son André-Jules’s wedding!

With a heavy heart, John comes to the resolution to put the Salines villa up for sale. To Anaïs' great despair, Martin Belzile shows interest and even taunts her all the way home. The Belziles travel plans are canceled at the last minute by a twist of fate. Élise is literally devastated by a terrible accident.

The Desrochers are looking for a solution to get out of their misery. Rachel and Bernadette’s efforts are no longer enough. For his part, Martin Belzile continues his intrigue to acquire the Desrochers villa for a good price. Anaïs opposes the odious transaction with all her seems inevitable. But someone comes in to shake up the game at the last minute.

The Desrochers family is preparing to leave their beloved estate for good. John, well surrounded by his family, accepts the departure more calmly. The Belziles move into their new home while Martin severs all ties with his mother. Élise is horrified to discover the true nature of Anaïs and Martin’s relationship.

At the dawn of the Second World War, Anaïs is called to read Élise Belzile’s will who has just succumbed to tuberculosis. Anaïs inherits the Villa. Martin does not take his disinheritance very well at all. André-Jules recently returned from Italy and settles on the family farm with his wife and child, now owned by his brother Bernard.

Martin narrowly avoids death and has to face the hostility of everyone around him. Going into exile seems the only way out. Anaïs is far from spinning perfect happiness with her husband Marcellin Landry. His fascist ideas lead him to suspect everyone around him, in particular André-Jules' wife Helena.

Rachel has to go back to Montreal but Évelyne wants to stay at Les Salines. Anaïs, who is afraid of becoming attached to her illegitimate daughter, refuses for her to stay with her. With the help of his henchmen, Marcellin organizes a vendetta against Helena. Anaïs who is worried about her husband's excesses, decides to put down boundaries. Anaïs and André-Jules are still attracted to each other.

The Belziles land at the Salines to make intimidating accusations. Anaïs who is taken aback, must cover for her husband. For the feast of Sainte-Anne, the Desrochers invite the parishioners of Cap-sur-Mer to a religious ceremony. The Belziles take this opportunity to challenge them again. This is the moment of confrontation between André-Jules and Marcellin.
