Frustrated by the limitations of the hospice, Mary secretly takes patients on the side. But when the death of one of her patients doesn't go as planned, she inadvertently exposes herself to a witness and puts the hospice on the police's radar.

After the witness returns with an unusual request, Mary attempts to solve the problem on her own but with fatal consequences. She is forced to question all her choices, including her decision to keep her baby a secret.

Following a disturbing revelation about Frances, Mary plans to remove her from the hospital. Meanwhile, Ben struggles with impending fatherhood as he and Mary try to reconcile their turbulent past in the face of news about their future.

Reeling with guilt over her patient's murder, Mary turns to Ben for help and agrees to stop killing people at the hospice. But after watching one of her patients die an excruciating natural death, Mary hardens her resolve.

Mary and Ben enact a risky plan to set Frances up by inviting her to work at the hospice. Meanwhile, Lucy decides to spend her remaining days with Des, but a turn for the worse drives them back to the hospice.

After the murder at the hospice, Mary and Ben have 24 hours before the autopsy results will give the police a reason to put Mary behind bars for good. An emotional Des makes a rash choice to bring Frances to justice.
