Humf

Humf is playing with his shadow in the park, but when the sun goes in he can’t find it anywhere. It starts to rain and Dad takes him home, but Humf is thinking about his shadow all alone in the park. And he is surprised to find it again, when he turns on the light for his bedtime story.

Humf helps his Dad with the cooking and he helps his Mum put the clothes in the washing machine. But he also likes to do things by himself. And when Mum is on the phone, Humf hangs up the wet washing all by himself on the only place he can reach – the sitting room furniture.

Humf likes playing hide and seek with his Mum and his Dad. He always hides under the bed. But when he tries to play hide and seek with his friends they have to learn that they can’t all hide at the same time and they can’t all seek at the same time either. They have to take turns.

Humf and Loon discover some ants in the park, but Loon doesn’t like ants. She gets upset if she finds one crawling on her and brushes it off. When it’s time to go home Humf finds an ant on him, but he doesn’t want to brush it off. He wants to take it back home to its Mummy and Daddy.

Humf wants to play with his friends, but neither of them are at home. So Humf’s Dad takes him to see if they are in the park. But Humf’s friends are not in the park either. Humf is sad, until his Dad suggests he can play with Humf and be his friend and together they make a great sandcastle!

Humf is a furry thing, but he knows there are lots of other things to be. So he tries learning to fly like a feathery thing, live under a box like a scaly thing and living in the water like a slippery thing, before finally deciding that he’s glad to be a furry thing after all.

Humf is frightened when the programme he is watching on TV ends and he sees a scary thing (a crocodile). So Mum turns the TV off and Loon helps Humf look for scary things, but they don’t find any. And then Humf sees the scary thing on TV again... and turns it off by himself.

Humf finds a special stick in the park and brings it home. Wallace comes to play and steps on Humf’s stick and it breaks. Wallace tries to fix the stick, but it isn’t easy and Humf is sad. Then Humf realises that Wallace is sad too and decides that two sticks might be better than one after all!

Humf discovers a hole under a tree in the park. He and Wallace find some treasure to put in it. When it’s time to go home they collect up their treasure, but Uncle Hairy says they can’t bring the hole. Humf is sad, until Uncle Hairy figures out a way to bring the hole home after all!

Uncle Hairy brings some balloons for Humf and his friends to play with. Humf likes balloons, until one of them pops and then he is not so sure. He hides behind the sofa until Uncle Hairy coaxes him out again and reassures him that balloons can be fun even if they do pop sometimes.

Humf has a special cup that he likes to drink from. And Uncle Hairy has a new briefcase. When Uncle Hairy goes home Humf can’t find his special cup anywhere. So Humf has to drink out of a big glass at supper… at least until Uncle Hairy comes back. Humf’s special cup was in his briefcase!

Uncle Hairy gives Humf a gift of a floppy thing. Humf likes it very much, but it’s even better when Uncle Hairy blows it up and it turns into a ball! Humf takes it to the park to play with it, but it gets a puncture and turns into a floppy thing again. Luckily Uncle Hairy knows how to fix it.

Humf likes to read the same story every night – The Little Green Bus. It is his favourite book and he takes it everywhere. But when he takes it in the bath the book gets ruined and Humf is very sad. Until he realises that he still knows all the words, and he decides it’s time to read another book.

Humf wakes up so early that his Mum and Dad are still asleep. Humf doesn’t mind. He climbs into bed with them. And then he gets up to get his cuddly toys and a book to read. But when his Mum and Dad’s alarm goes off and they finally get up, they all seem surprisingly sleepy.

Humf’s Mum packs a picnic in Humf’s rucksack to take to the park. Humf proudly carries it, but it isn’t easy. He falls over on top of his rucksack and ends up sitting on it too, so by the time they have the picnic all the food looks very strange and Humf’s not sure if he wants to eat it or not.

Sometimes Humf’s Dad turns into the Tickle Monster! Humf likes being tickled and Wallace does too. But when Loon comes round to play they discover that she doesn’t like tickles at all. So they have to play something else if they want to play together. Or play tickling games without her.

Uncle Hairy walks Humf home in the dark and Humf notices that the moon is following him. Humf wonders if the moon wants to come to his flat. And in the bathroom he discovers the moon in the sink! It did come. But then Dad pulls the plug out and the moon goes back to the sky again.

When there is a power cut, Humf is reassured to see that the stars have not gone out. Humf hopes his clever Mum and Dad can fix the power cut, but in the meantime they all use torches and candles. And Humf goes to sleep with the curtains open so he can see the stars shining in the sky.

Uncle Hairy gives Humf a gift of a little toy trumpet and together they form a marching band. When Loon and Wallace hear the noise they want to join in too. So they all go back to Humf’s house to play music together, but Humf’s Mum and Dad are not too pleased.

Humf learns to do a somersault like Loon. But Wallace can’t do a somersault at all, so he decides to show off how fast he can run. Loon is faster than Wallace, but Humf is the slowest of all. Until he somersaults down the hill by accident and finds a new game that they are all good at!

Humf is curious about the words on the screen of the computer and in magazines, but when he asks his Mum and Dad what they say they don’t seem very interesting. Then Humf discovers a new word that he does find interesting, so he decides to try to use it as often as he can.

When Loon’s Mum takes Humf and Loon to the supermarket, Humf gets distracted by all the new things there are to see. He hurries to catch up with Loon’s Mum and hold on to her so he won’t get lost. But when he gets to the check-out he realises that he’s holding onto someone else!

One day Humf bakes some cheesey biscuits with his Mum and then Loon comes over. Loon likes cheesey biscuits and is determined to look at them while they are cooling off. She gets Humf to help her climb up to the kitchen counter, even though Humf doesn’t think it is a very good idea.

One day Humf wakes up and everything outside is gone. Uncle Hairy takes him out to find the park in the fog. They find Wallace too. But Wallace has lost his hat. So he and Humf go looking for it and get lost too. Wallace’s Dad finds them. And then the park starts to come back.

Wallace is wearing a cape and being his favourite superhero – Super Tiger. When Wallace bumps into Humf and steps on Loon’s toes, Humf and Loon don’t like it. But it’s only when Wallace bumps into the swings and hurts himself, that he takes off his cape and decides to be Wallace again.
