Tom Oakley (John Thaw, Into the Blue, Kavanagh QC, Inspector Morse), is a cantankerous old man exiled from the life of the village in Little Weirworld, weighed down with his memories. All this is set to change as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. Tom is landed with William Beech (Nick Robinson), an 11-year-old evacuee from London.
