Based off of scientist, writer, traveler, and explorer V. Arsenev's novel of the same name. It is the story of his friendship with guide Dersu Uzala, whose extraordinary personal qualities delight V. Arsenev. Their travel over Usuriysk taiga makes the skeleton of the film, and is full of dangerous adventures. The meaning of the narrative, however, is far from the story's events.
