A small village is stunned when Dr Meyer, a retired local doctor, is shot dead by the salmon fishing river. Local police officers Filippa and Kaare take the case, but the former head of police insists on being involved.

Filippa gets sidelined in the police investigation by Kaare, but she starts looking into the case on her own. Are there clues in the village idiot’s ramblings, and is there a connection to the girl in the woods?

Filippa’s curiosity is triggered when a young girl turns up at the local hospital badly beaten. Who is she, and is there a connection between her and the late Dr Meyer?

Mira Hildonen, the prime suspect in the case, is on the run from the police when a new double killing shocks the village. National Crime Investigation detectives take over the case, and sideline both Filippa and Kaare.
