After the mauled body of a girl shows up on the outskirts of Bear Valley in Upstate New York, Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf, is forced to choose between her new humanlife (and lover Philip McAdams) in Toronto and the more-than-human existence she’s forsaken at Stonehaven, home to the Pack of werewolves she left a year beforehand.

At Stonehaven, Elena tracks the killer Mutt (the Pack term for rogue werewolves) while avoiding the advances of Clay Danvers, her former lover. Haunted by her own past as a killer, she’s desperate to get back to her human life, but is delayed when a second body is discovered, this time on Stonehaven property.

Tensions at Stonehaven flare when a pack of hunters, on a search for the killer wolf, come upon the dead body before the Pack has a chance to deal with it.To distract the hunters, Elena spooks their dog with a look –it lunges at her, tearing into her arm. Clay worsens the situation when he hurls the dog to the ground. Tempers flare and the dog’s owner, Braxton, vows he will make Clay pay.

With a growing sexual tension between them, Elena and Clay pair up to investigate why psychotic killers are suddenly being “bitten” into werewolves. When their search reveals that old Mutts are working together with newly-turned Mutts, Clay and Elena suddenly realize they’re facing an organized plot to overthrow Pack rule.

Elena’s origins as a werewolf and the history of her love affair with Clay are revealed as she struggles to defend Clay against suspicions of murder. When former Pack member Daniel Santos arrives with information on the Mutt uprising, he takes the opportunity to undermine Elena’s trust in the impulsive Clay.

Back in Toronto, Elena’s commitment to Philip and her human life is interrupted when Santos crashes Philip’s sister’s wedding party, offering her a way out from the strife of the Pack. Her refusal to run away with Santos leads to a gory “parting gift” with shocking revelations. Meanwhile, at Stonehaven, Jeremy is forced to fight to keep his Alpha status.

Daniel Santos, having now stepped out of the shadows as the leader of the Mutt uprising, requests a meet with the Pack to discuss a potential truce. The Pack sees this as a perfect opportunity to set a trap for their enemies and end the uprising once and for all.

Jeremy is poisoned and growing weaker by the hour. Elena and Clay rush to discover what toxin is killing their Alpha. As Clay viciously interrogates a Mutt in the War Room, Elena confronts a werewolf groupie who wants nothing more than to be just like her.

The Pack comes together to take on the notorious ex-Pack enforcer, Jimmy Koenig, who has been hired by Santos to kill them. As they move to intercept Koenig in a derelict factory, Clay and Elena must find a way to bridge the emotional gap between them over residual resentment about the bite.

Elena’s two worlds collide when Elena returns to Toronto for her art show and Clay is ordered to go with her for protection and surf on current lover Philip’s couch. Meanwhile, the Mutts make a surprise appearance at Elena’s show with a new recruit who forces her to face the horrors of her childhood.

Elena and Clay are holed up in Philip’s apartment while Elena attempts damage control with Philip. Philip is now aware of their past as lovers, but there’s something he doesn’t know (above and beyond the fact that they are werewolves)...she explains that their lives are in danger, feigning that she and Clay are part of a crime family at war.

Unwilling to lose anymore loved ones, Elena disobeys her Alpha’s commands and finally embrace the killer within in order to free a captured Clay. But when Philip confronts her on who, or what, she is, Elena is must say good-bye to the human life she struggled so hard to create.

Having learned the truth about Clay’s role in her werewolf origins, Elena reunites with the Pack at Stonehaven. Together, theyprepare for a final stand against a Mutt army led by Santosand the mysterious James Williams, poised to take them down. It's time for epic war.
