Birbal , whose real name was Maheshdas, was a minister at the court of the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar the Great, who ruled from 1556 to 1605.. Birbal's Keen sense of justice, selflessness, loyalty, integrity and service made him an indispensable part of the Mughal court. He was Akbar's friend and advisor, Birbal was a quick witted person who fascinated Akbar and his subject with his humour.
