African Secrets

This episode shows the various fun and games to be experienced by those visiting the Falls. Bungee jumping, gorge swing, white water rafting, canoeing and flying fox are some forms of entertainment available to visitors.

A story told through narration and interviews with some of the renowned artists in the country. The various artifacts captured in this video tell the story of the peoples producing it and captures the history of the nation and the diverse culture of its peoples. Focuses on stone and metal sculpture, painting, batik printing, basket weaving and pottery, among other forms of art.

The Nyau, Makishi and Ndebele dancers are only a few of the dancing groups showcasing their talent in the African night. The dancing routines shown by these groups are similar within the region. In Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia - one can find the same dances. The drumming, the humming & singing and the gestures all combine to show the uniqueness of African traditional dancing

Besides the spiritual rituals involved in some forms of traditional healing, this episode also relates the use of herbal medicine in the country to support the widely used clinical medicine. The witch doctor's procedures are interlinked with interviews to tell this mysterious story of healing and the administration of all forms of traditional healing in the Southern African country.

Unravel the mystery and myth behind totems through research and one-on-one interviews with cultural gurus and elderly members of society with in-depth knowledge. We explore the beliefs, superstitions and controversies associated with totems in the context of the prevailing socio-cultural environment.

We got a rare chance to visit the peri-urban settlement of Epworth, where Nyau dancing is a common exercise. We were shown through the drumming, the singing, the dancing routines and the pre-dance rituals. This ritual exercise, which originated in central Africa, is steeped in myth and mystery. Its practitioners are accused of all sorts of things, ranging from cannibalism to voodooism.

We explore tourist attractions along the Zambezi escarpment & most of these beautiful areas are the crocodile inhabiting the waters of the Zambezi River. Although it belongs to the Nile crocodile species, we were tempted to call it the Zambezi crocodile, to give it a name closer to home. We also give previously unknown information about the crocodile's lifestyle and anatomy.

Filmed around Hippo Pools Wilderness camp, we reveal some of the creatures crawling on the earth's surface, or flying above it- all of them hitherto taken for granted. We capture creatures such as the Scarlet-chested Sunbird, the Forktailed Drongo, the Firefinch, the Golden-breasted Bunting, the Golden-tailed Woodpecker, the Leguaan, the Agama, the Klipspringer and the rock Dassie, among others.

Filmed at Mwanga Lodge in Northern Zimbabwe, we showcase various species of game roaming the country's planes. With the aid of old bones, Gordon and Debbie Putterill who run the place, describe the living habits of the animals on show. Every skull, every shinbone, every tooth- has a story behind it, we learn much more than the commonly known facts about animal life.
