Foreigner Emilie (Ingrid Bergman), comes to serve as governess for Adam's (Warner Baxter) four sons. Her devotion and strength see the family through thick and thin. The family is nearly torn apart when new a bride (Susan Hayward) enters and Emilie attempts to warn the family of her infidelity.
