A Passion for Roebucks

We are going roebuck hunting in the very varied and beautiful Scotland. Strathmore estate covers more than 5.700 hectares and harbours a dense population of roe deer and bucks with trophies in all qualities. The centre of the terrain is historic Glamis Castle.

Strathmore Estate consists of both farmland, forest and heather-clad highland. The very different types of landscapes ensure a great variation in hunting techniques as well as in the quality of the trophies. But regardless where the roebucks roam and how large a head they have, there are great hunting challenges to find here.

We accompany Mikkel on his exciting hunt for a truly top trophy head of a Scottish roebuck. His friend, Jens, is also hunting in these both cultivated and very wild landscapes, which gives additional challenges. In the breaks between hunting roebucks morning and evening the two hunters visit a famous distillery which produces a very famous single malt whiskey.

Torben has come to Strathmore Estate to experience the challenges of hunting over mature bucks in the beautiful Scottish highland. Although top trophy heads are rare up here the challenges of the hunts are often greater as the bucks normally are taken after an often arduous stalk.

French Philippe has come to Scotland to learn a little about Scottish roe deer management and to try hunting the estate's bucks with Adam the game manager. We learn about the principles of which animals to pick out for culling and Phillipe is put to quite a test.

As a destination for travelling hunters Scotland is getting increasingly popular with her unique mix of history, culture and very wild nature. We look back upon the roebuck hunting season here at Strathmore Estate where a number of Danish and a single French hunter have had unforgettable experiences.

Jens Kjaer Knudsen and Dan Saugstrup are put to a difficult test during this hunt where they are calling roebucks. Both will have numerous chances, but when you are calling roebucks into very short range you must also have a little luck in order to be able to make an ethical shot. See how the two experienced hunters end up with very different results of their hunts.

In this episode you learn how to lure roebucks with many other techniques than just a call. The hunters have many great and very surprising experiences. Jens gets closer to a living roebuck than ever before and Dan finally has luck on his side.
