1939: The caricaturist Josep Bartoli flees from Spain and the Franco regime to France, where the refugees are locked up in camps and left to fend for themselves. They have no choice but to build their own shelters, eat the horses they had ridden out of their home lands, and die by the hundreds for lack of hygiene and water... In one of these camps, two men separated by barbed wire become friends.
