Art historian Tim Marlow charts the portrayal of the naked body throughout history, from the Classical Era to the Renaissance, and from the Enlightenment to the Modern Era. He finds that the nude figure in Western art has been used to express ideals of male and female beauty and other human qualities. Athlete, dancer, and warrior nudes express human energy and life and a range of complex emotions.
