The story follows Mercedes, an orphan who quits her job at the slaughterhouse and begins working for Silvia, a widow. Jaime, a broke backpacker who does repairs for money, arrives at her house. After a series of events prompted by Silvia, the employees become a couple, and she believes the unborn child will be his.
