Gereon Rath, a Cologne police officer, is new to the vice squad in Berlin and has to deal with a freight train arriving from the Soviet Union which draws attention from many people: to some, its treasure is the key to political power, to others it secures a life in freedom and wealth, and yet, it is a death trap to anyone trying to approach it.
