Land of Amber

In Simojovel, Mexico, a rare form of natural amber is found, with unique transparency and range of colors. Extraction remains unchanged since Mayan times: by hand in tunnels dug into the mountains. The indigenous miners own their mines, but these are far from customers and so they are forced to rely on jewellers who buy low and sell high to tourists and collectors.
