Room to Improve

The series begins in Cork City with our youngest and most ambitious couple yet, Meadhbh and Niall, both 27-years-old. Not only are the couple trying to completely restore a 1920s cottage but Meadhbh is also working on her PHD, has a full time job, Niall runs two busy 02 stores, oh and they are planning a wedding to happen within a month of the house being complete!

After 10 successful years living in Boston and having set up her own house cleaning business, Elaine Mitchell made the decision to come back to the old sod with her earnings and buy the local pub in her home town, Legan, Co. Longford. On the outside, the pub appears to be a well finished, spacious, fully functional premises for Elaine to live and work in.

Aideen and Steffen Klauer and their two young sons live in a 100 year-old ex-corporation granite cottage on two acres set in an area of outstanding beauty on the upper slope of the Wicklow Gap. No close neighbours, beautiful views of the Wicklow Mountains, a large vegetable patch, 10 hens, four ducks, two geese, four beehives, two dogs and three cats.

Marcus and Margaret are about to extend a two-bed cottage in Dundrum and share it with Marcus's beloved Aunt May. The cottage was originally owned by Marcus's grandfather who reared May after her parents died when she was very young. In his will, Marcus's grandfather left provision for May to remain in the house for the rest of her life. The house would then pass to Marcus.

The number one criteria when buying a house is location and our fifth programme of the series is set in one of the most sought after costal parts of the country, Dalkey. Playground to the rich and famous, where celebrities such as to Bono & Neil Jordan can regularily be spotted.

John Rochford from Dublin and Lee Benn, originally from Limerick, have bought a house in their dream location - South Dublin's seaside suburbia, Blackrock. Although the location is perfect, it will take a serious amount of work before the couple's new home becomes anything idyllic.
