While Irwan is preparing to wed his pregnant wife Hanneke in jail, his sister, Carmen, is settling into her new, anonymous life in a distant town in the Netherlands. But when a detective shows up pleading with her to testify against her brother, it seems that it won’t be so easy for Carmen to leave her past behind her...

Carmen is visited by her father Andre's right hand man, Luther, who asks her to forgive her brother Irwan. Having narrowly escaped an attempt on her life, Carmen is now being forced to choose between justice and the wishes of her dying father.

Carmen continues to feel under threat and calls on Luther for help, but they soon become accomplices when yet another attempt is made on her life. Irwan meanwhile is preparing for his release from jail and is blackmailed by an old rival.

Luther and Carmen send a message to the people wanting her dead. Natalie leaves home for Amsterdam and Irwan spots an apportunity to offer Carmen an olive branch but he soon finds himself in grave danger once more.

Carmen goes on a dangerous pursuit to find Irwan while Hanneke goes into labor. Upon meeting her new nephew, Carmen is confronted with the state of her own family and her relationship with John de Weerdt.

When a dead body surfaces, tension and distrust mounts within the family. Hanneke reveals her own suspicions of Carmen to Detective Leeflang and soon the District Attorney encourages the investigation to focus on Carmen…

Carmen is arrested and put into isolation. She begins to worry when evidence emerges of her potential involvement in a brutal murder and the District Attorney uses news of Natalie’s erratic behavior in Amsterdam as leverage against her.

At a family funeral, Carmen is confronted with the shady figures who dragged her back into this dangerous criminal underworld. She realizes that she must prepare a strong offence of her own in order to protect what’s left of her family…

With Luther is detained for murder, Carmen decides to pursue Henk Ooms on her own. But when things begin to unravel as she executes her plan, will Carmen come out on top of this brutal game?
