Every November, more than 100 teams of backyard scientists from all across the country trailer their gigantic homebuilt catapults, air cannons, torsion machines, and trebuchets and flock to Delaware to compete in the World Championship of Punkin Chunkin, the most famous engineering-meets-produce competition in the world. Witness every part of the process from "chunker" construction to the first test chunk, and even get in on the action as teams lay it all on the line to give everything they've got for their chance to launch a pumpkin as far as possible and take home the coveted title of world's furthest chunk and capture Punkin Chunkin glory!
Medieval catapults and their modern variants have re-emerged in contemporary society. They are the center piece to a contest to catapult an eight to ten pound pumpkin as far as possible. Soon, some skilled team hopes to break the one-mile mark.
