The Adulterer

When Iris and Willem meet, the attraction is immediate. Unfortunately, they are both married, Iris to state prosecutor Pepijn and Willem to Elsie, the daughter of a dubious real estate tycoon, Huub Couwenberg. Willem, is not only Huub’s son-in-law, he is also his private lawyer. As Iris and Willem embark on an affair, Willem and Pepijn find themselves going head to head in the court room.

Louis Karelse is pronounced dead, the cause – murder. With many enemies, there are many suspects, including his brother-in-law, Huub. Huub’s right-hand man, Joachim does what he needs to protect his boss. Suspicion also points to Hubb’s unstable son, Björn. Iris tries to suppress her feelings for Willem and concentrate on making her marriage work, but the reality of her actions soon haunts her.

The attraction between Iris and Willem becomes more intense as they start to have feelings for one another beyond the physical. They know they should end their affair, but the hold is to strong. Eyebrows are raised when a curious and substantial amount of money invoice is transferred to Huub’s business account – from a source that no one can easily identify.

The investigation into Louis’ death continues and exposes some shocking discoveries, it seems that everyone has secrets to hide, lies to tell or promises to keep. Pepijn begins to sense that Iris is not quite herself and starts to join the dots to form an upsetting picture.

Joachim and Mireille reach a compromise that appears to suit them both, but is Mireille about to be duped? Iris faces a dilemma as Pepijn makes some demands. Björn finds himself in very hot water with the police once again. The phone rings in Pepijn and Iris’ house, babysitter Tess, is horrified when she hears the message.

Iris reaches a heart-breaking decision. Huub begins to question Willem’s loyalty and starts his own ‘investigation’, he is not happy that what he discovers is going to devastate his daughter Elsie. With an ace up his sleeve, Pepijn’s is determined to win the court case, it has now become personal.

Iris’ identity is fully revealed to both Huub and Elsie – knowing that she is the wife of Pepijn causes great concern and worry. Both Pepijn and Elsie try to manipulate their spouses to return home and makes their marriages work for the sake of their children. Willem and Elsie’s children innocence are lost as they start to uncover some truths about their family.

Willem decides to resign from working for Huub, but Huub will not let him go easy – a deal is struck. Iris engages a lawyer to try and win custody of her son Menno, but it looks like there maybe further problems ahead. Irish soon fears that Willem is keep secrets from her. Beppie, receives an offer hard to refuse.

Björn is struggling to cope and is showing signs of cracking under the pressure of facing manslaughter. Huub needs to act fast if he is going to help his son and agrees to make a deal with Elsie. Iris demands the truth from Williem. Meanwhile, Marit and Marco rebellious behave gets them into serious trouble.

While Marco is in lying in a hospital bed in critical condition, Willem and Elsie reunite and put their differences on hold, while Huub seeks revenge. Whose finger prints are on the champagne bottle that was found by Mireille’s side – has someone tapered with police evidence? Willem has an unexpected visitor.

Willem finds himself in the court dock, will the nightmare end? Several witnesses are called to the witness stand; Elsie Joachim and Huub, it appears the net is closing in on Willem. Iris may hold the key to his freedom, but can she prove it? The clock is ticking.
