La drôle de situation dans laquelle il se trouve permet au moins à Subaru de tenter plusieurs choses pour sauver ses amis. Mais le fil des événements ne se laisse pas saisir aussi facilement, et le moindre accroc à la trame du temps a des conséquences imprévues. Heureusement, lors d’une énième agression crapuleuse, il a une idée lumineuse.

Subaru se réveille dans le lit douillet d’une chambre inconnue. Il ignore encore qu’après avoir été soigné par Émilia, il a été transporté au manoir Roswaal, et qu’il lui faudra compter non seulement avec le maître des lieux, protecteur d'Émilia, mais aussi avec une bibliothécaire acerbe et deux soubrettes jumelles qui ne montrent guère de considération pour lui.

Subaru a appris de ses deux dernières morts qu’il était incapable de sauver le manoir Roswaal seul. Il va donc essayer d’obtenir des autres candidates des renforts pour éradiquer le culte de la Sorcière. Malheureusement, le mépris qu’il leur inspire et sa fébrilité rend son discours suspect et font capoter les négociations. Il se résigne à retourner au domaine pour sauver ce qui peut l’être.
