World's Scariest Hauntings

In the 1700s, murder, misery and unnatural death was rife in the slums of Scotland's historic capital city. Since the vaults were rediscovered in 1985 they've become a hotbed of paranormal activity. We've interviewed Ewan Armstong who guides people through the paranormal underworld and Zoe White who was grabbed by the ghosts of serial killers, Burke and Hare - with the photograph to prove it!

Being situated on an ancient pagan burial site and a Ley Line intersection in Gloucestershire, England, it's no wonder the Ancient Ram is one of the most haunted houses in the world. The Bishop of Gloucester, upon a failed exorcism of the building said it was "the most evil place I have ever had the misfortune to visit".

Built in 1779, Bodmin Jail in Cornwall has housed many notorious criminals, some of whom were put to death on the grounds. It is now a museum and soon to be a hotel complex. But it's believed that many of the spirits have never left the building. Paranormal manager, Mark Rablin and ghost hunter, Tony Ferguson, share stories and footage you have to see to believe it!

Standing since the 12th century in Rye, on the south coast of England, The Mermaid Inn once played host to the notorious band of smugglers, the Hawkhurst Gang. Medium, Charlotte Underwood, describes the day she was physically assaulted by a ghostly smuggler and head porter, Glenn Bailey tells us how he is personally targeted by co-leader of the Hawkhurst Gang, Thomas Kingsmill.

Built in 1832 in New York City, the Merchant's House Museum is a time capsule of 19th century Manhattan. Some say the Tredwell family, who lived in the house for about 100 years, are still in residence. Anthony Bellov, who runs the museum, shares his paranormal experiences within the house and local ghost hunter Dan Sturges shares the ghostly recordings that he's captured in the Tredwell home.

Built in 1952, Kelvedon Hatch bunker was designed as a safehouse in case of a Nuclear attack. Nestled deep in the Essex woodland, it was only revealed to the public in 1992 upon its decommissioning. An ancient burial ground was disturbed during the construction and it's believed that spirits were unleashed. Ghost hunter, Mickey Gocool and paranormal enthusiast, Sadie Forth tell their stories.

Located in rural North Wales, Plas Teg is a 17th century Jacobean mansion that literally translates into English as Fair Mansion, but many of the spirits that reside here are more foul than fair. Tour guide, Marcus Rheade-Edwards shares his experience of being physically attacked by a malevolent spirit and we meet paranormal investigator, Paul Rowland who captured photos of a ghost child.

With tales of bloodshed and slaughter, Leap Castle wouldn't look out of place in a Hollywood fantasy world. But the stories of death and torture at the medieval Irish stronghold are real. Ghost hunter Warren Coates shares voice recordings he's collected at Leap Castle and paranormal investigator Neal McMenamin recalls when he was possessed by a spirit in the aptly named Bloody Chapel.

The cosmopolitan district of Griffintown in Montreal, Canada has a dark history. Many Irish immigrants who arrived in the 18th century died from diseases and murders were rife. As gentrification of the area continues, the constant construction work has awoken the dead. Local resident, Louis Lamontagne and paranormal tour guide, Anton Golikov share their knowledge of Griffintown's ghost stories.

North of Prague in the countryside of the Czech Republic, sits Houska Castle, one of the most mysterious fortresses in the world. The 13th century castle wasn't built to keep people from entering, it was built to keep something from getting out. Paranormal investigator, Victoria Burton takes us on a ghost hunt through the castle and supernatural enthusiast, Andria Trinity shares her experience.
