Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

In this episode of Parts Unknown, Tony returns to one of his favourite places on Earth, Vietnam. For this trip, he journeys to the center of the country, near the coast, to a city he has never been to, Huế, The City of Ghosts. It has long been the epicentre for intellectuals, scholars, artists, writers, musicians, religious life, and famously, the culinary heart of the country.

In this episode, we leave behind Africa we've come to know in the news. Instead, we embrace the wild, untamed land of mystery, adventure, and exoticism. Zanzibar has historically been known for its two main exports -slaves and spices. As an international hub, it has taken on the characteristics of the Arab, Indian, and African populations who travelled to and from the island.

A country of only six million people where a vast percentage of the land is steaming hot jungle or a huge scrub desert known simply as The Chaco. Only a few large cities offer a respite from the oppressive heat. Landlocked, isolated and mysterious, this is one of the least known nations in the world.
