Roy Mallard travels to Nottingham to spend a day with Peter Wilson, Managing Director of Zenotec - a company fighting to keep afloat in the stimulating environment of Surface Mount Technology. It's a difficult day during which there's a visit from some important Japanese clients and an employee is sacked.

Roy Mallard spends a day with Levick's Estate Agents-a small family firm in Lewes, Sussex. 'It's no surprise that estate agents are so often compared to synchronized swimmers. A glimpse beneath the surface of the underwater lipstick, however, can reveal a different story,' says Roy.

Roy follows PC David Knight as he prepares for a 12-hour day on duty. Roy also meets Inspector Mike, who believes technology is no substitute for having a good nose on the job, and Chief Inspector Carpenter, who explains the importance of earning respect in the force, but his dodgy hairdo prevents him from gaining Roy's respect.
