By critical consensus one of the best movies ever made, SEVEN SAMURAI has been much imitated ( The Magnificent Seven) but never surpassed. The film is set in Japan in the 1600s during the Sengoku era, when the once-powerful samurai were coming to the end of their rule. A small, unprotected village, which is regularly pillaged by murderous thieves, asks a band of samurai to defend them.
