In the frozen depths of the Canadian winter, Cardinal and Delorme are back on duty. Still working together, at least while Delorme awaits news of a transfer, the two are called in to deal with a missing person report.

The kidnapper strikes again, and this time the choice of victim is particularly cruel. Delorme informs her boss that she has accepted a transfer offer but that she won't leave until after the case is closed.

As a new victim is found, it becomes increasingly clear that the murderer's main targets are not the victims themselves, but their loved ones. Police work to establish a link between the two deaths, but crucial information continues to elude them.

Another abduction hits close to home as Detectives John Cardinal and Lise Delorme are caught in a race against time to save the next victim before it's too late.

Josh's father is still in danger. Will Lise be able to get to him in time? Meanwhile, the killer's motives become ever clearer. Cardinal and Delorme travel to Toronto to search his abandoned flat.

Having made a surprise arrest, Cardinal and Delorme must now extract enough information to get a lead on the killer, and fast, because in the meantime he has made off into the depths of the forest with his last two chosen victims.
